My story

My name is Michelle Behrns, I don’t have to go back too far in life to where my journey started, but maybe my journey started before I thought it did.. Born in Roanoke VA, just kidding I don’t plan to go that far back!
I began my martial arts journey a little over 10 years ago.

After quitting smoking for the last time, I had  more energy  and I was wanting to do something. I liked working out, but I am not a self motivator! I had driven past a local karate school for months wanting to try but never had the courage, plus I was very shy and reserved. Besides I thought I was too old, yeah 41 isn’t old, but to start martial arts?

Two months later I took my first karate class. I was terrified but I went in anyway. I felt self conscious, totally uncoordinated, out of breath and thought I was going to die! And I loved it! I walked out the door feeling so empowered I could take on the world! A month later I ran/walked my first 5k and that began my fitness journey.

Martial arts became a way of life and became a journey I had not expected. I attended every class offered because I wanted to learn everything. I felt great mentally and physically and with in a few years I was teaching fitness classes and some karate classes as an assistant instructor.

Now with the rank if Nidan,  I’m still learning and growing today. Since then, I have achieved many fitness certifications, as well as received training and state issued credentials in security and executive protection. 3 years ago I started my own martial arts school/ fitness studio. I love to talk to people and share what I have learned through classes and seminars.
This is my passion, I want to give others the opportunity to grow, to feel empowered like I felt. Whether it’s martial arts, a form of self-defense, or through fitness, I want to help people on their journey.

In conclusion, I have a little inscription stitched inside  my black belt that I see every time I tie it.

“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.”

In loving memory of my Mom & Dad, thank you.
